For many years I was tasked with creating presentations and other useful documents for my job as well as for school.  At the time, my go to software was Microsoft Office.  Time and time again I would comb through the various templates that were available and choose one.  I found hunting for the perfect images to be a hassle.  Overall, I felt that my creativity was limited by what I was using … that is, until I discovered Canva.

What is Canva?

Canva is a platform for graphic design which was founded in 2013.  Anyone can create an account and use the platform for a variety of projects.  Here are just a few:

  • Resumes
  • Cover Letters
  • Videos
  • Social Media Posts
  • Logos
  • Business Cards
  • Flyers
  • Presentations
  • Posters
  • Newsletters
  • Invitations

The platform has a wide variety of templates for all of the above-mentioned categories plus more.  Users can easily edit these templates to customize images, shapes, colors, text, etc.  What is also great about Canva is the fact that you can add team members to collaborate simultaneously on projects.  This allows you to share accounts.

Canva offers 2 different plans (excluding the Enterprise, Education, and Non Profits plans) for those who sign up for their services. Prices vary depending on how many individuals you have on your team.

Free Plan

The free plan allows anyone to start designing with all the templates and graphics labeled “free” on the platform.  This is great for those who don’t need all of the extra elements and those who design very simple projects.  You get 250,000+ free templates, thousands of free photos, and 5GB of cloud storage.  If you feel restricted in your creativity like I did, then you may want to consider upgrading to the next plan.

Pro Plan

In my opinion, the pro plan is the best value.  With Canva Pro, there are no restrictions on what you can and can’t use, and to start off you get 30 days completely free. On top of that, the plan allows you to have up to a total of 5 people on the account!  If you have a friend or family member who needs this graphic design platform, then you can invite them to share the account with no additional charge.   Accounts with more than 5 team members are billed extra.

According to current pricing, if there is a max of 5 team members or less then you would only be billed $12.99/month.  That’s very affordable and is less than the cost of eating at your favorite restaurant.  If you chose to pay the yearly price in 1 payment, then it will be only $119.99/year.

If you are going to use Canva for designing things for your side hustles, your 9-5 job, or your business then this option is perfect.  I use it for almost everything.  You get access to 100+ million premium stock photos, 610,000+ premium templates, 100 GB of cloud storage, unlocked designing features, and more.  Let’s see what else makes signing up for Canva Pro such a great value.

Extra Value

Canva allows you to do more than just design digital items.  Take a look at these other awesome services that you gain access to when you join the platform:

  • Icons and Graphs/Charts – Create visuals with stunning icons, graphs, and charts.
  • Canva Print – Take your designs and add them to physical items such as business cards, mugs, t-shirts, brochures, invitations, yard signs, etc.
  • App Syncing – Design by synching apps such as Google Photos, Google Drive, Google Maps, YouTube, FB, IG, Twitter, Pinterest, Bitmoji, etc.
  • Video Editor – Use the video recorder, video trimmer, and video resizer.
  • Content Planner – Schedule social media posts by letting the platform post for you.  This is perfect for freelancers, influencers, and small business owners who wish to promote products and services on their social media but don’t have time to post manually every day.
  • Brand Kit – Use this area of Canva to plan your brand’s identity.  Add your brand’s logos, color pallet, and fonts for designing.
  • Courses, Tutorials, and Blog – You can learn the basics of how to use Canva, design principles, and more by viewing the platform’s courses, tutorials, and blog.
  • Downloadable App – You can download the Canva app to multiple devices such as Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac if you do not wish to use your browser to access the platform.

Try Canva Free

Wow!  That is a lot, and I must say that there are still things I neglected to cover.  As you can see, there is a win-win situation when you sign up for Canva.  So, go ahead and give Canva Pro a try for FREE for the next 30 days.  Yes, you read that correctly. You can get a month of Canva Pro FREE! If you don’t like it, you can always downgrade to the free version.  But maybe you won’t want to.  I know I never looked back.
